story prompt

A character is pulled over by the police for speeding.  There’s a crying baby in the car.  It’s 3pm and a weekday.  Lots of traffic on the road.  Your character doesn’t have any ID.

"This day can't get any worse," Teddy groaned.  His wife had to go into work, and he was responsible for getting the baby to the Pediatrician for his one year immunizations.  The baby was not happy to be travelling in the car and wailed to let his displeasure know.

Ted accelerated to pass the slow moving cement truck on the back street he'd taken hoping to save time.  Travelling with a baby was next to impossible to ever leave the house without being late, but this appointment was very important especially since they were leaving on holidays in two weeks.  Glancing around Teddy didn't see anyone else so he continued at his current speed which was 10 over the speed limit.

Around the next corner the radar was waiting.  Teddy didn't see it until he knew it was too late. It was at that point as well that he realized he was speeding through a school zone and it was 3pm.  The day just officially got worse.

Teddy pulled over glancing at the clock, they had 15 minutes to make the appointment.  "Ok TJ just settle down while Daddy talks to this police officer," Teddy told the baby, which sent the baby into new waves of screaming.

Teddy banged his head on the steering wheel, as the police officer knocked on the roof of his car.  Teddy turned his head and wondered if he broke down crying if the police officer would take pity on him.

"Do you know how fast you were going?" the police officer opened, flipping his ticket book open, "License and registration."

Teddy reached for his registration, kept in the mirror of the drivers side sun shade, then he reached for his wallet, but found his pockets to be disturbingly empty.  He handed the registration over and continued to look in the consoles and glove compartment for his wallet. He distinctly remembered having his wallet in his hand when he was getting TJ ready to go out.

"Sir your license?" the officer prompted.

Teddy was tempted to turn the water works on, it couldn't be that hard, TJ was doing it. Teddy felt between the seats, under the seats in the diaper bag his wife insisted went everywhere with the baby, but it was not there. Closing his eyes he tried to retrace his last steps in the house, but he remembered having the wallet with him as he was getting the baby into the car. Had he put it on the roof to buckle the baby in?

"It seems I can't find my wallet officer," Teddy shared. "I had it with me when I left the house to get in the car, but now it seems to have disappeared, I may have drove off with it on my roof."

"Is this your child sir?"

"Yes he's my child!"

"He seems to be very agitated right now like he's not comfortable with you."

"hush TJ," Teddy tried to soothe the baby by reaching back and patting his head.  "Come on TJ, Daddy can't think."

"Sir, could you please turn the car off, if you have no idea then I'm going to need to call someone who can verify that  you are supposed to be with this child."

"Officer that would be fine but we have to get to the immunization clinic, I had one job to do from my wife today, I can't mess this up, the baby is mine, he just missed his nap, could you write the ticket so I can get going."

"Sir please turn off the car and remove the baby from the carseat."

"Are you for real?  This is a joke right, my wife put you up to this?"

"No sir, she didn't now please exit the vehicle, we've had an amber alert for a one year old boy and a male driver in an SUV, we are just checking every angle."

"Ok, ok, i'm getting out, and I'll get TJ, my son, who's named after me out as well."  Teddy exited the front door and opened the back door to extricate his son, from his car seat.  TJ lowered the volume of his cries but continued crying until he was outside of the vehicle.

Teddy glanced at his watch, it was now 3:10, he was never going to make it and his wife was going to be upset, because she would have to go to the walk in and that could take all morning.  When he was shifting TJ he glanced into the backseat, into TJ's carseat and saw his wallet.

"Wahoo!!!" Teddy yelped, "Officer, I have my wallet!! it was under the baby, that must have been why he was crying,"  Teddy reached into the car, grabbed his wallet and took out his ID and TJ's health card to hand to the officer.

After handing the cards to the officer Teddy put TJ back into his carseat and accepted his ticket, he still had time and if the clinic was running behind it might be ok if he arrived 5 minutes late.  Right now that's all he had left was hope.  The officer waved him off and went back to stopping speeding traffic in the school zone. Teddy was very conscious of his speed as he drove away, not wanting to get pulled over twice in the same day.

I’m pretty trendy with my fashion but I always put my own spin on it, I also like to dress like a girl, skirts, heels and tops, I don’t think I own a pair of jeans at all.
What can you tell the readers about your family?
Well it’s a bit of a shit show.  My parents are divorced, mom got remarried and step dad is a douche.  I have four siblings that live with my mom and step dad but I left home three years ago and moved in with my dad.  I’m his only kid and he travels a lot for business so he’s not home that often. He has a new girlfriend that has a kid, but it’s not his so I didn’t want to live there anymore because she was always trying to mother me and I’m like I left my mother for doing that back off.  So I got my own apartment and Dad is helping with it but since I moved out of a place that was provided for me I had to help pay my own rent.  But he did give me this sweet car!
What can you tell us about your circle of friends?
I would say Marisal is my best friend and Tacia and I are good friends.  I met Marisal first and when we met her and Tacia were in some sort of fight and I didn’t meet Tacia for a bit, but I heard a lot so I keep Tacia at an arms length sometimes.  I also have other friends from back home but I don’t see them very often so I guess that’s my circle. There are some work friends and we may get close but who knows.

What are your strengths?
Do people know how to answer this? I am really good at math, I am aware of how not to be awkward in social situations, I am very confident. I’m intelligent.
What are your weaknesses?
I am loyal to a fault and I hate change. I like things to stay the same so maybe that’s why even though Tacia and I aren’t that close we are still friends because she knows me and if she wasn’t around I might have to make new friends.
Talk about what you believe are your good qualities.
I’m loyal, absolutely loyal to my friends.  I’m also determined to get what I want and I work very diligently to achieve my goals.  I’m goal oriented and I am not easily distracted from what I want.
What are your bad habits?
I don’t always listen to others, I sort of decide what the story is and let that be my truth and it’s not always been exactly what I make it to be so that gets me in trouble.
Turn ons:
Tall dark and handsome. Money also is pretty alluring to me
Turn offs:
Poorness, extra pounds
Natural talents:
I can play the piano and I’ve only ever had three lessons
Temperament:
I could say I don’t have a temper, but I do, it’s bad. I had to see a counselor when I was little for my anger issues.  I don’t think it’s that bad now but I’ve worked at it for many years.  But when I get mad I get mad and it takes me a long time to stop being mad.  I have a hard time letting things go.
Background:
I just moved to Berry Creek when I was 14. I had to get out of my mother’s house, it wasn’t a good environment for me and I wanted to live with my father.  He’s not home most of the time so I got my solitude.  Now I live on my own because my father ruined my solitude by inviting his girlfriend and her kid to live with us, but it’s actually working out pretty well, I’ve my own place which is more than any of my friends can say.  This town is just somewhere I’m stopping in for a short time, then I am off to bigger and better.
Happiest Moment:
I don’t think it’s happened yet but possibly getting my own place.
Saddest Moment:
When my grandfather died,  he showed me what unconditional love was and I miss him

What is your weight?
Oh I don’t know maybe 105 lbs, but only because I wasn’t as active as I usually am in the summer.
Describe for the readers your body structure and physical faults.
I’m very small in frame, but sorta tall.  I think I could be a run way model, but no modeling agencies ever come here.  I’m into dance and gymnastics so I have a typical body for someone who does those sports, not that I do them anymore.
As for faults, I’m pretty perfect, sometimes I tell my dad that my curly hair is a curse because it takes so much for me to do it, but I’ve figured it out and now it’s not so bad. I’ve also got a small chest, but I’m thinking of getting implants when I’m 18.

What can you tell the readers about your family?
My family used to live in Chile, but then we moved to Canada before I was born.  My mom and dad took a break for awhile when I was 7 but recently they got back together.  So I’ve got a pretty perfect family. Sometimes it’s hard here though because it’s not like this area has a lot of Chilean people.
What can you tell us about your circle of friends?
Oh Alizhay is my BFF, she is just so cool and she looks to me for guidance.  It’s really great, and then I am also really close with Tacia, she and I have been friends since middle school.  We had a lot in common but, I’ve noticed lately that her interests aren’t always the same as mine.  Sometimes she seems more philanthropic then she needs to be, sort of like she’s faking it and no one is buying it. It’s like she’s lost her genuineness.
Do you have any enemies?
I don’t think so, I’m pretty popular, and people that don’t like me are just jealous of me.
What are your religious spiritual beliefs/ values?
I don’t know, I was raised Catholic so I guess that’s my beliefs.
What are your life goals?
I’m going to be a make up artist or model. I just have to get out of this town.
What is your dream job or dream for your life?
My dream for my life is to be a well known artist, and to be sought out by others to help them foster their craft.
What is your favourite phrase to use?
I don’t know.  I guess I use Get out a lot.
What are your hobbies?
I like reading anything to do with fashion, fashion is my passion.  I also like dance, reading, and cooking
What do you like?
I like beautiful things, I like art, I like reading, I like paintings.
What are your dislikes?
Oh well I dislike confrontation, I don’t like to fight and I’d like to avoid it at all costs.
What do you loathe?
I loathe being lied to, I loathe when people aren’t accountable and I loath when people don’t just own what they want and they try to cover it up or pretend like it’s no big deal.
What are your fears?
I’m scared people will find out my faults.  Not that I have any but what if I did?
What are your strengths?
I’m cunning and can talk myself out of a lot of hard situations.
What are your weaknesses?
I don’t have any, I’m pretty perfect can’t you tell?
Talk about what you believe are your good qualities.
I’m a great person, people like me and want to help me out.  I give what I get and I can empathize with others.  I think I’m intelligent and genuine and if people don’t like me that’s their problem.
What are your bad habits?
I not always great at staying on task, for things like school.  I tend to procrastinate
Turn ons:
Tall guys, blue eyes, blond hair, funny
Turn offs:
Short guys, insensitivity, unathletic
Natural talents:
Everything I do is a talent
Temperament:
I don’t get mad easily, but when I do get mad at someone I tend to hold a grudge and then I will often not tell you I’m mad. I don’t like confrontation so I don’t deal with the issue, I either leave it be until I’m over it or until I don’t have to talk to that person again.
Background:
I’ve lived here my whole life, my mom’s family has been here for almost a 100 years now, ok maybe 50, but it’s been since my great grandparents moved here.  My dad is an orphan from Chile and so we have no family there, his family died in some mudslide or earthquake, I’m not sure he doesn’t talk about it much.  My parents separated when I was 6 and my dad moved to the coast and I would go visit him out there.  When my parents were getting back together I hoped we would move to the coast and leave this town behind but for some reason my dad said it was a bad idea and now we never talk about that time.  I’m an only child and that’s the best thing ever!!
Happiest Moment:
When my parents got back together
Saddest Moment:
When my parents got back together

Berry Creek

Welcome to Berry Creek!!! Where your neighbours are your friends.   Or that's what the sign says on the way into town.  The sign also says this is the location of the best Berry Pies this side of the rockies.  Every Summer there is a pie baking, pie eating and pie throwing contest.  The area is ripe with wild berries and you pick farms.  It's one of the main staples for entertainment.

Berry Creek was founded when explorers got blown off course from the main river in the fall.  They came across a Native American encampment, they were welcomed to share the fire.  They also shared fresh picked berries and bannock that night.  Because the creek is on the larger side, some of the explorers asked to stay and began setting up homesteads.  Within 2 years there was a prosperous community living along the creek.  They had good relations with the neighbouring Natives, but as the land had never been claimed by one band or another the residence were not bothered by the natives in the area.  At least to begin with.

Fast forward ahead one hundred and ten years to present day.  Berry Creek is still a prosperous community though it's growth has slowed somewhat in the past few years.   They have expanded their industry to include a Saw Mill and Pulp and Paper mill to the North, Potash Mines to the south, and there are a few federal and provinicial prisons in the area.  Berry Creek's population has grown and continues to grow, there are about 45,000 citizens in this fair city.

The city has trees and hills and is divided into 6 sections.  There is central Valley, South hill, West Valley, East Valley, West Hill and East Plains.  Each section has multiple elementary schools and there are three high schools in the city, a public one, a catholic one and an alternative high school.  There is also a college located in East Valley that works as a feeder to the provinicial universities.  The affluent areas include the West Hill and East Plains with East Valley and South Hill being fairly middle class.  Central Valley is mostly commericial developments though there are a few older homes which vary is price range.  The West Valley is mostly low socio-economic, there are more incidents of crime and gangs in that area, but for the size of the city the crime rate was a little higher than someone would like it to be, meaning most of the citizens in Berry Creek.

The Public High School was a comprehensive High School.  It was named after the founder of the first school in Berry Creek, Mrs. Vylma Meiers, Meiers Comprehensive High School.  The school usually had a population of 3500 students at any given time.  In the 80s the school had gone under a revamping to include different programs for all the students.  It boasted one of the most varied program offerings in the province.  The sports team were known as the Meier Mauraders.  There colours were blue, silver and white.  They even had a drama club known as the Meier Masquaraders which would often put on variety shows and compete in national drama competitions.  The last 5 years they had won nationals and were even given the opportunity to showcase some of their skits on the Comedy Network.

The Catholic High School, which provides MCHS with it's greatest competition, is Sacred Heart High School.  It started some 20 years after the public school and has a population of 2000 students at any given time.  It is currently undergoing an upgrade so that it can offer more programs and increase their sports program.  Their sports team are the Sacred Heart Saints and their colours are Black, red and yellow.  Their Drama deptartment will sometimes pair up with MCHS and put on public musicals or larger productions although this is becoming less frequent as the school's population increases.

The Alternative High School is staffed as a cooperative by the public and Separate division.  They offer courses at alternate times and in such away that young adults who would like to finish their education but have to work as well can attend school at night or in block chunks meaning they would only take one class in the morning or afternoon but they would only take that course for 4 weeks.

The rest of the city was pretty much like any other small city across the country.  There were regular restaurants, fast food restaurants, chain restaurants, two malls one was better than the other, box stores were beginning to pop up everywhere and the housing development had recently gone on the rise.

Outside of Berry Creek are some wonderful natural places to experience.  They have lakes and parks within a hour driving distance, there are historical sites that are marked as places to visit but also there are some sites that aren't but the teens love to go there and have for years.  Just don't tell the teens that their parents used to hang out there too!!!

In future blogs I will go into more detail in the schools, the hang outs and some other important venues of this little town with so many loveable characters.

Meet Tacia Victoria Larson

What is your full name?
Tacia Victoria Larson. My mom had a thing for royalty.  I'm sure she would have stuck Catherine in there i my cousin hadn't already had that name.

Do you have any nicknames?
No just Tacia, although sometimes people just call me Tay or TayTay so I guess that's a nickname.

What is your gender?
Seriously, that question is on there, well I am female.

How old are you?
I am 17 years old

What is your birth date?
I'm a Pisces, through and through, I was born March 14th.

What is your relationship status?
Like on Facebook?  I'm still looking for Mr. Right, I thought I had found him but he proved to be Mr. Dead Wrong.  I just still kind of wish that he hadn't been though. It's Complicated, that's my Facebook Status.

How would you describe your hair colour?
It's an auburn colour by choice, but I have been known to be blond and chestnut brown.  I like to change it, my birth colour is mouse brown, very blah and boring!!

How would you describe your eye colour?
They are a stormy grey, sometimes blue sometimes green.  It depends on my mood.  But if you have ever seen a storm rolling in on a large body of water and the grey green colour of the sky before it's right on top of you, that's what my eyes look like most days.

What is your orgin?
Well I came from my mom and dad, who came from their parents etc and so on.  My heritage is Heinz 57 but really what Caucasian person living in North America isn't?  I mostly connect with my Norwegian heritage, but my French side is kind of fun too.  I am a proud Canadian American.  I was born in The states and I go back all the time, but I live in Canada now.

Do you speak any other languages?
Not really, much to my step-dad's charign, I can understand French but it's hard for me to figure out all the verb tenses and stuff to answer back.  I just don't use it enough, maybe I should start using it more.

How tall are you?
Too tall, is that an answer?  I'm like 5'11" I'm taller than almost all the boys, it sucks.  No one wants to date an Amazon, they all want the pixie sized girls, the little girls.

What is your weight?
That's a horrible question!!!!  I'm a healthy weight.  That is all.

Describe for the readers your body structure and physical faults.
I've been blessed or cursed with a curvy figure.  I have horrible fingernails, mostly because I always pick at the imperfections and then they peel or I bite them.  I am always trying to quit but nothing has worked yet.  I have large feet, which is probably normal seeing as I am a descendant of the Jolly Green Giant, no I kid, but i have larger feet than all my friends.  Maybe I need to find taller friends?  I also have imperfect teeth, they are straight but I have a small gap and my eye teeth sort of flare out.  I never smile with an open mouth for pictures if I can help it.

How is your health, Physical and Mental?
They are both good.

What ethnicity are you?
I already answered this, maybe I didn't understand the first question, but I am Scandinavian and French.

What would you say is your personal style?
It's pretty much classic with a little prep, I am never very trendy with the clothes I buy.

What can you tell the readers about your family?
I live with my mom and step dad.  I have two sisters, one lives with us and one lives with our dad, I also have a brother.  I am the oldest of my mom's children.  My older sister lives with my dad for 3 months of the year and the other time she lives with her mom, but sees our dad every other weekend.  My oldest sister is named Jessica.  My other sister is Elizabeth Grace (see obsession with Royalty) and my brother is Andrew George.
My mom and step dad are pretty cool, and I get to see my dad twice a year and I talk to him all the time, but sometimes I miss him and wish I could be the only one with him for most of the year.

What can you tell us about your circle of friends?
My core group of friends are Marisal and Alizhay and Reese and Paige.  I usually always hang out with Marisal and Alizhay outside of school and Reese and Paige in school.  I probably have more in common with Reese and Paige now, but Marisal and I have been friends since middle school and Alizhay has been our friend since high school.  I hang out with a lot of people but I make the most time for Alizhay and Marisal.

Do you have any enemies?
Who doesn't?  I don't actually think so, but sometimes people do mean things to further their own agenda, I try not to hate anyone, my fatal flaw, it takes too much energy and I would rather have happy thoughts.

What are your religious spiritual beliefs/ values?
I don't know how to answer this!  I believer there is a God.  I believe in treating people with respect, kindness and dignity.  I don't agree with organized religion, even though my parents haul me to church every weekend.  I just think that organized religious groups cause more trouble in the world then good.  It's just my opinion, I don't think the people are inherently bad, they just make bad decisions and blanket statements that don't work for every situation.  I believe that absolute power corrupts and so does absolute spirituality.  If you don't have an open mind to other belief systems you can't get along with other people.  I believe Jesus was real, but I don't think the average person knows his full story.

What are your life goals?
Right now I want to graduate high school.  Then I want to have a family, a large family, but I want to be a child psychologist.  I love working with kids and I especially love helping kids.

What is your dream job or dream for your life?
It's a secret but I would love to be a published author, I think that would be so cool.

What is your favourite phrase to use?
get out of here or I'll do it and Seriously?

What are your hobbies?
Reading, writing, running, swimming, playing sports, photography and baking.

What do you like?
I like good books, good movies and good food.  I enjoy music and I have favourite songs in every genre. And must see television, I may be a bit of a television junkie.

What are your dislikes?
techno and reggae music are not my favourites, I hate feet as well and fake people.

What do you loathe?
boring books and liver

What are your fears?
losing someone I love and death and heights.

What are your strengths?
persistence, dependable, organized, quick learner and I am honest.  I am also very forgiving, again this could be my fatal flaw.

What are your weaknesses?
I have a weak stomach for certain smells. I also don't always trust my own abilities.

Talk about what you believe are your good qualities.
I am a great listener, I have a lot of empathy and I am great at helping others solve problems and I can follow directions really well.

What are your bad habits?
I easily get wrapped up in my own world, I don't always act selflessly, I have a quick temper, by which I mean it lights quick but fizzles out even faster.  I forgive too easily and it often leads me to being hurt (fatal flaw)

Turn ons: strong arms, tall guys and blue eyes

Turn offs: overweight, short guys and arrogance

Natural talents: writing, learning and being able to see the whole picture (when it's someone else's problem, when it's my own I have tunnel vision)

Temperament: easy going, long fuse, not easily angered but when angered it burns bright and fizzles quickly.

Background: My parents divorced when I was four.  I moved to Canada and began kindergarten in the city but moved to a small town after kindergarten when my mom met my step dad.  They got married and my brother was born 6 months  later and my sister was born 3 years after that. We moved back to the city when I was in middle school where I met Marisal. We both moved to the Public High School after grade 9 and that's when Marisal met Alizhay.  She was a year younger than us, but she worked hard to take extra classes to join our graduating class.  She's definitely closer to Marisal than me but we get along just fine too.

Happiest Moment:
When I got my license on the first try, and when my brother was born and then my sister.

Saddest Moment:
When my nana died.  She was always with me every summer and she was so much fun.

The World of Imagination

Welcome to the portal of every destination imaginable!!!

I will be your tour guide through the ins and outs of using this blog spot to reach new destinations.  Some are of this world, while others are on a completely separate plane.  It's here where you will be able to meet characters, have interviews with authors, experience waking up in a new world, really the only limit is the imagination of the people who wish to contribute to this site.

In some cases you will find all kinds of different types of writings; poetry, fiction, non fiction, short stories, exerts, book reviews.  And  reader responses.

This website is going to help young writers find their way into the literary world.  How to get published, how to get representation, what you need before looking for publishers or agents, how to get those things, and who to work out the kinks of the hidden world of publishing.  It will expose the journey of those of us who have ventured down this path, how we chose the writings we made, the pitfalls that surprised us, the surprises that scared us.

For this writer personally, it will be a way to monitor my journey so I know that I am making progress, so that the dream to become a published author, a best selling author, does not die unrealized as I continue to shelf what I have to do to reach my goal for other things.  I am going to do this, I just have to find away to realize this goal and find the  best way to promote my writings.

So here we go, stay tuned for the first installment of fiction writing, it will be character interviews for a trilogy I am working on!
